Only in America

I have been away for a couple of weeks but should be back to my discussion of the reasons why I de-converted tomorrow. In the meantime, I thought I would share with my readers a great money making scheme that I wish I had thought of first.

Americans love Jesus and they love their pets. Those Christians who believe in the rapture (which could happen any moment)are concerned about who will take care of their pets when the rapture happens.

Enter an organization called, Eternal Earth-Bound Pets, USA . On their website they say:

You've committed your life to Jesus. You know you're saved. But when the Rapture comes what's to become of your loving pets who are left behind? Eternal Earth-Bound Pets takes that burden off your mind.

We are a group of dedicated animal lovers, and atheists. Each Eternal Earth-Bound Pet representative is a confirmed atheist, and as such will still be here on Earth after you've received your reward. Our network of animal activists are committed to step in when you step up to Jesus.

We are currently active in 22 states. Our representatives have been screened to ensure that they are atheists, animal lovers, are moral / ethical with no criminal background, have the ability and desire to rescue your pet and the means to retrieve them and ensure their care for your pet's natural life.

For the mere sum of $110.00 they will sign a contract promising to personally take care of your pet when you are raptured. The contract is good for 10 years.

What a beautiful scam! I wish I would have thought of this. Apparently they now have 100 clients in 22 states.

Something like this could only happen in America--Christian America that is.

  1. Ken,
Actually, we hit 100 in November. We have over that now.

Thanks for the kind words, albeit, I don't look at our business offering as a "scam." We have the rescuers and infrastructure in place to fulfill our contractual obligations in the absurdly remote chance we are wrong and the Christian fundies are correct.

My congratulations on your escape from religiosity. Welcome to reality.

    Yours in reason,

  2. Bart,

You are right. Its not a scam. These people are freely giving you money as sort of an insurance policy. You are doing nothing wrong. I did not mean to imply that. I salute you as a matter of fact.

  4. And I salute you both! I got such a kick out of reading the website. Also I pictured people sitting around, and somebody says, "Hey, here's a great idea..."

I love it. You'd think Christians would get embarrassed when people take them seriously with all this stuff they supposedly believe. They SHOULD be presented with the practical issues involved. Not enough people get called on this stuff.

  5. Lynn,

Thanks. Actually, the genesis for the web business came from a chapter in my book where I mused about how I could capitalize on the 2012 mayan calander nonsense, and christian end times doctrine. Sometime later my web business partner sent me an email about a joke rapture pet care in the UK. The rest is history as they say.

Some Xtians do get embarrassed. Unfortunately, they manifest that embarrassment with hostility.

You should see some of the emails we get from those "good Christians" : threats of rape, murder (sometimes both and not always in that order); hate filled vile language that makes one wonder if they kiss Jesus and their Moms with their filthy mouths.

The answer As a former Christitian,my perception at the time was Faith Truth Love.

I found an new understanding of GOD.
I did not havelove for self.
    Faith Truth = LOVE

    An Atheist is "without God".
    An Agnostic is "without Revelation".
    A Deist is "without Alternative"

Read when your ready GOD never forced me to listen to a truth other then what I thought was TRUTH, not that it was bad, but it did not help me in the long run.

  7. I've been thinking for years that there must be a way to profit from this stupidity. If you're convinced the market will go down, and others believe it will go up, you can short it, right?

So... why can't there be a way to get these people to put their money where their mouths are? The world will be ending in X years, they say? Then there must be a way for those who don't believe it to receive title to all of their then useless property after this time, in exchange for consideration up front. Think of all that easy money they could be getting from nonbelievers through rapture options, rapture futures, etc. Intrade should get into this business. They let you bet on all kinds of other eventualities, like politicians' future approval ratings and the like.

  8. Ken,

the posting from "mysolution" above is a spam posting. They/he/she has been sending the exact same gibberish to my site and every non-believer site I visit.

May I suggest you visit their blog, and on the top of their home page click on "report abuse" and report them for "spamming."

I did, as have others I know.

    Regards,
    Bart

Actually, they do not say the world will be ending in X years. Scripture says "no one
but the Father" knows the date. Not even Jesus.

So, that makes the sell you are suggesting a bit more difficult.

It's one thing to offer animal rescue coverage for $0.92 per month for ten years. It's a whole 'nother thing to find religionists who will to play into an investment game that would be perceived by them as betting on end times, second guesing scripture, and mocking god.

  11. Hope this doesn't turn out to be a duplicate post. I'm having problems with google.

This sure sounds like a scam to me. How is this any different than some tele-evangelists fleecing folks pockets for their own profit.

The sad thing is I'm sure that many Christian people who would fall for this are folks of limited means to begin with, especially the elderly, or those who maybe intellectually limited.

I would be keeping a tight hold on my china, and silver if Hump, and his friends ever come visiting.

    Prayers ascending in his direction.

I don't worship in a denomination that would interpret Revelation in this literalist way. But, let's face it, if the fundamentalists are right, and the parousia happens exactly as they envision, no one will be focused on rescuing a stranger's cat.

    Nuff said!
