Halloween

Short History of Halloween

What band is best suited for Halloween? Its got to be Kiss. In the 70's when I was a teenager, preachers were saying that KISS stood for Kings in Satan's Service.  Get over it, it just an act.

Saturday Jam--The best Guitarist no one has heard of--Robin Trower

When the best classic rock guitarists of all time are discussed, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana,  and Jimmy Page are often mentioned. But what about Robin Trower? In my opinion, he is one of the very best and yet many people today have never heard of him. If you like guitar work, you will love this collection.

Saturday Jam--Addicted to Love [Dumb] by Robert Palmer

Once again this is a stretch for apostate music but with a couple of changes in the lyrics, it works. Religion is an addiction and I used to be heavily addicted [to dumb]. Anyway I love this song, you have got to admit that its one of the coolest music videos ever.

ADDICTED TO LOVE [DUMB]

Your lights are on, but you're not home
Your mind is not your own
Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another kiss [verse] is what it takes

You can't sleep, you can't eat
There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your throat is tight, you can't breathe
Another kiss [verse] is all you need

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]

You see the signs, but you can't read
You're runnin' at a different speed
Your heart beats in double time
Another kiss [verse] and you'll be mine, a one track mind

You can't be saved
Oblivion is all you crave
If there's some left for you
You don't mind if you do

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]

Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]

------ lead guitar ------

Your lights are on, but you're not home
Your will is not your own
You're heart sweats and teeth grind
Another [verse] and you'll be mine

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]

Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]
Might as well face it, you're addicted to love [dumb]

Saturday Jam-- Superstition by Stevie Wonder

Superstition by Stevie Wonder:

Very superstitious,
Writing's on the wall,
Very superstitious,
Ladders bout' to fall,
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck,
The good things in your past

[Chorus]
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition aint the way

Hey

[Verse 2]
Very superstitious,
Wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem,
Do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream,
Keep me goin' strong,
You don't wanna save me,
Sad is the soul

[Chorus]
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way,
Yeh, yeh

Very superstitious,
Nothin' more to say,
Very superstitious,
The devil's on his way,
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the lookin' glass,
Seven years of bad luck,
Good things in your past

When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way,
No, no, no

Saturday Jam--Imagine by John Lennon

This is one of my favorite tunes and its lyrics, while idealistic, are certainly desirable, "Imagine," by John Lennon.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Saturday Jam--Ted Nugent

I have to admit this is a little bit of a stretch for apostate music but let me give my spin on it. I was in a stranglehold of supersition until I found freedom.

Ted Nugent was perhaps my favorite musician before I was "saved." In 1977, I went to see him twice at the Omni in Atlanta, July 4th and Dec. 31st. It was great. In January of 1978, I became a Christian so I felt that his music was of "the devil." I now know better. Enjoy these videos--"There ain't no doubt when Uncle Teddy whips it out."

Saturday Jam--Crazy Train and Paranoid by Ozzy

Since my former Christian colleagues and friends think I am crazy now, here is Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne. My favorite line in the song is:

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools

For those who worry about me going to Hell, you are just Paranoid:

Saturday Jam--Back Masking--Satanic Messages?

A number of evangelists made a good living in the 70's and 80's preaching about the Satanic messages in certain Rock songs when played backwards. One of the most popular songs alleged to glorify Satan when reversed was Hotel California by the Eagles.

For the full version of this classic, see below:

Another song alleged to have Satanic messages wasStairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. See below:

Saturday Jam-- Losing My Religion and I'm Going Straight to Hell

I love music. Being born and reared in the South, I am partial to Southern rock bands. Growing up my favorite band was Lynyrd Skynyrd. I also liked the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and Molly Hatchet.

Below are a couple of songs from Southern bands that every apostate should like. The first is by R.E.M., the biggest band to ever come out of the Athens, Georgia music scene (apologies to the B-52's and Widespread Panic). The second is by Driving and Crying who I am going to be fortunate enough to see live in July.
